| I've always been into photo, but didn't get serious about it until the winter of 2009. I was a junior in high school at the time, and was taking a black and white film photography course at my school. No one in my school really takes this photography course seriously--most kids just do their homework or use it as a free period. So on most days I had the darkroom to myself. That was when I hit a sort of rough patch in my life. Among the stress of applying to college and other extraneous things, a guy I had been seeing for a while ended up being a total skeev and in my head I started to question the credibility of a lot of the people I loved. I could feel myself changing from a naive girl into a bit of a cynic, but I couldn't do anything about it. School from this point until the end of the year became a chaotic mess for me--I wasn't myself, and people were starting to notice. The only truly constant thing in my life was that darkroom. After lunch every day I got to go to my darkroom, typically with my ipod blaring some Death Cab into my ears, and develop picture after picture after picture. It was my happy, solitary place, where the whirlwind drama of high school couldn't touch me. I inevitably fell head over heels in love with photography, and I haven't stopped since. I got my first digital camera in June 2009 and it was glued to my hip all summer, since the school, which includes the darkroom, was closed for the season. Everything I do now is either self-taught by trial and error, learned from assorted photography books, or tips from various other photographers I've had conversations with. So please, feel free to make critiques and comments, because while I'm here to display my work, I am here to learn as well. Thanks for reading, and enjoy my gallery |
